Welcome to Karkara Women and Youths Development Initiative (KAWODI)

We are an indigenous non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) that has been in existence since 2021, registered under the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (Part C). It is popularly known by the acronym KAWODI and works primarily at the national level, undertaking grassroots community work in the following areas:

Mission

KARKARA Women and Youths Development Initiative is committed to the promotion of innovative approach to positive human development and attitudinal patterns of the rural dwellers through interaction and exchange of values and ideas.

Vision

Our vision amongst others is to accelerate access to community based programs necessary for communal growth and development amongst the rural Nigerian dwellers and beyond.

Management Team

A visionary leader with over 20 years in the non-profit sector, Hajiya Hadiza has transformed KAWODI into a leading advocate for gender equality, education, and economic empowerment in Nigeria. She has implemented national policies for women's rights and initiated the "Farm to Feed" program, training over 5,000 women in backyard farming in Kano and Kaduna States. Known for her collaborative approach, Hajiya fosters inclusivity and innovation within KAWODI. She emphasizes transparent communication and participatory decision-making, believing in education and economic independence as key tools for women's empowerment. Her dedication and impact make her a distinguished and inspiring figure in the sector. Hajiya holds a B.A. in English and is currently the Executive Director of KAWODI.

Hajiya Khadijah Ali Abdulrahman

Muhammad Aminu, with 15 years of experience, is an expert in women and youth development, child protection, and GBV prevention. He has collaborated with international and national organizations like UNODC, ActionAid Nigeria, and Farm Radio International, contributing to significant projects across Nigeria. An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, he holds advanced certifications in Political Science, Strategic Communication, Administration, and Management. Aminu currently serves as the Advocacy and Relationship Manager, excelling in program design, implementation, and project staff management.

Muhammad Aminu Yusuf

Advocacy and Partnership Manager

With over ten years of experience, Khadijah began her career as a rural correspondent with Vision FM Kaduna, balancing organizational objectives and building productive relationships. As a reporter and head of communications at Demokradiya Television, she focused on rural community issues affecting women, youth, and children, enhancing organizational exposure and influencing public perceptions. She holds a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication and advanced certifications in Development Communications from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Khadijah Suleiman

Digital and Communication Manager

Versatile in research methods, shehu holds a B.Sc. Economics, M.Sc. Economics, PhD. Economics Degrees from Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, Nigeria. An accomplished educationist, he had been a lecturer at the Ibrahim badamasi babangida university, Lapai, Niger state Shehu has vast experience in research design, implementation and management. Resulting, he had been involved in research design, implementation and management for several private and public sector institutions, business firms and development agencies for growth and sustainability including Save the Children Nigeria, Education Sector Support Program in Nigeria ESSPIN, and National Action Committee on Aids NACA among others. Shehu Musa Anfani

Mrs. Abubakar is a dedicated Gender-Based Violence Officer with over ten years of experience advocating for women's rights and managing GBV cases. She has provided comprehensive support to survivors, including counseling, legal assistance, and medical referrals. As a Master Trainer for UNICEF, she excels in community outreach and policy advocacy. With 20 years as a professional tutor and Counseling Psychologist, she established counseling units in schools in Northwestern Nigeria and offers pro bono online counseling. She is a member of CASSON, YALI Network, and a Fellow of iDevPro Africa and Toastmasters International. Hajiya Ummi holds an M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Bayero University Kano and serves as the organization's GBV and Protection Officer.

Fahad Baman Yusuf is an ambassador and advocate for Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) with over 4 years of experience. He has contributed significantly to various organizations, including Arewa Youth Trust Foundation and Simpsonite Group, and managed the "Children’s Education First" project for Simpsonite Educational Development Consult. Mr. Baman has received awards such as "A True Diplomat" from the National Association of Niger State Students and "Senior Advocate of Children Education 2021" from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He has presented papers at national conferences, including World Youth Day 2018, and participated in numerous radio and TV discussions on critical education issues. He authored the book "The Trouble with Children's Education in Nigeria.
